At this time Zoo REC does not have a physical facility that is available for visiting prior to adoption. All animals are cared for in dedicated foster homes throughout North Carolina. Adoption fees vary across the board depending on species. Some animals may have reduced adoption fees, for example animals that are a bonded pair may have a reduced fee to be adopted together.
Home visits may be required to adopt certain animals, particularly for exotic species. In addition, exotic species will also undergo a legal check. Many cities, towns, or counties have additional legal requirements for owning particular exotic species. If your jurisdiction does not allow for the species that you are interested in adopting, Zoo REC will not approve your application. If you are unsure if your area allows for the species, we recommend researching your local ordinances prior to applying to adopt.
Cages are not included in any adoption. Individuals must be prepared to purchase enclosures prior to bringing home an animal. Zoo REC will work with you once your application has been approved to allow for time to purchase an enclosure and arrange pick up of your new family member.
Animals adopted from Zoo REC include a no breeding clause of the adoption contract. If it is safe and recommended for the species, they will be altered prior to adoption.
